Each Gemlite channel letter comes with an opaque white channel can(back) which is approximately 3/4" deep and a corresponding face made from a translucent, LED compatible (built in diffusion) face color. The face can be made either with a flat, round, prismatic or other sculptured profile to match your needs. The light visible to bystanders will be omitted not only from the face but also from the sidewalls of the face portion of the letter.
Round face letters particularly have a striking look using this manufacturing technique. Some customers have even accented Gemlite letters by applying a translucent vinyl onto the surface of trans-white Gemlite faces so the face emits a desired color and the light through the sides of the letter face create a halo effect for the sign.
The new low profile look of Gemlite formed channel letters are sure to make you happy. The new slim line design with near invisible can and trimless face, allows channel letters to go places they have never been before. Now channel letters can go indoors, as part of POP displays, behind front desk areas, or anywhere you want illumination without the large 5" protrusion typical of bent aluminum channel cans.
Aside from it's sleek looks, the face material of the Gemlite channel letters has been specially formulated to work with LED wavelengths to promote the best diffusion and light translucency for eye popping brightness.
Opaque white cans are required for UL recognition as the material has been specifically identified by lot#, material thickness and composition. This opaque white reflects more light through the faces than other colors and will also prevent most LED lighting systems from showing through the can sidewalls-unless the LED modules are placed within 1" of the letter return edge. If a different can color is required for your application, or to ensure 100% opacity, the cans can be painted for a 15% fee.

Gemlite formed channel letters are UL recognized components for LED installations. The renewable resource plastics used in the face and cans meets flammability rating of 1, fire rating of 94HB and can be used with virtually any low voltage, low profile lighting system that does not require a metal can to act as a heat sink. These letters are not for use with any neon or other lighting system of greater than 24V.
CUSTOM LETTERS AND LOGOS
Nearly any font style or logo can be produced. For block type letter styles, typically a 9" capital height is required while most serif or other script styles require a minimum 12" capital letter height.
